When you surf the net you will find a lot of articles about replacement window ratings but today I want to look at something different.

Do not start with the replacement of your storm windows until you have all the necessary tools in place. You will need pliers, well measured tempered glass, gloves, glazing compound, a putty knife, brush, safety goggles and a trash container for the glass that can be thrown away.

Take the putty knife or any other flat instrument and remove all the old caulking. Make sure you save all glazer points. With your goggles on your eyes and gloves on your hands start removing the glass using the pliers. Remove the chips or slivers that come up. You need to then accurately measure the space where the window will go. Measure the bottom side, the top and on both side – left and right.

There is a place where the glass will fit into. This is the part to be measured. You need to be careful when taking your measurement as the glass shouldn’t be too tight nor too loose. You can make sure of this by leaning a 1/8 inch space on all sides as you take your measurements. Once you’ve done that then try and fit the glass into the frame – do not rush this process.

Then you need to replace the glazier’s points, that is, if the window came with some. Make sure that the glazing compound is soft. You can do this by rolling it around your hands; If you are using a fresh one then there is no need to soften it.

The next step is about spreading the glazing compound. Take it and spread it around the window with the putty knife. Make sure it is sealed neatly into the wooden frame or metal one – depending on which one you have. Take the putty knife and continue spreading to make sure there is enough of the glazing in all the corners. Make sure there isn’t any caulking showing when viewing from the other side. On the following day make sure that you clean any caulking that was spilled and then leave everything for a week – to set on its own.

By the way if you find this confusing just find window replacement contractors to help you.

As you can see replacing broken storm windows is not that bad. You can help yourself by learning more about this topic by checking out some other online sources. It is also important to read about best wood replacement windows.

There are a number of scams online so make sure you are very careful while looking for the information. I normally recommend using Google to find some very useful sights but you just use any search engine that you like as long as it has a good reputation when it comes to providing accurate search results.
